Cinerama To Be 10 Years Old Oct. 1
Deseret News, 18 May 1962, page B3
Cinerama, the process that has resulted in some of the screen's outstanding
entertainments, will be 10 years old on Oct. 1.
It will be a full decade since "This Is Cinerama" was unveiled
in New York to the accompaniment of acclaim and forecasts of a gleaming
future.
Financial maneuvering came into the picture behind the scenes before
very long, however, and hurt the immediate development of this revolutionary
new technique for making movies. Five pictures were produced in Cinerama
with the travelogue format and theaters using Cinerama were put into operation
in various parts of the country.
More than a year ago, Cinerama enjoyed a new boom when new backers decided
to make story-telling pictures in the unusual process, and the first of
these, the enchanting "Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm"
is now playing at the Villa Theater.
In honor of the tenth anniversary of Cinerama the Villa plans month-long
activities during October. Although the details have not been firmed up
yet, they are expected to include such events as honors for couples celebrating
their tenth anniversaries, for children reaching 10 years old and similar
activities.
Details will be announced soon by Ted Kirkmeyer, city manager for Fox
Theaters, and Sid Page, manager of the Villa.
